Medical Social Work….Is it really that bad?
And maybe it’s not medical social work, per se, but actually hospital social work. We have been having an enormously difficult time filling our last position that is open. Essentially, it has been open for about a year. We will think we’re about to hire someone and then it doesn’t work out. Either they change their minds or the pay isn’t good enough…those seem to be the standard issues. Maybe there are other reasons, we haven’t heard though. I just wonder what it is that has made this position so difficult to fill. I really love this job. Yes, sometimes it gets to me. Yes, sometimes the hours are long. Yes, sometimes it feels as if no one appreciates the field of social work. However, in the broad scheme of things at my place of employment, those are relatively small issues. For the most part, I really love this job and I can’t imagine why someone wouldn’t want to work here. So…hopefully, we will have another social worker hired soon and we can be fully staffed and all will be good…hopefully.
